Baby Measles

Since Monday, David has had a temperature of about 102, that is until Wednesday night, when his fever broke and he began to break out in what looked like hives or perhaps a heat rash. Yesterday was pretty rough for him, as he spent almost all day crying, fussing, or SCREAMING. So, we thought that he needed a trip to a doctor. So, we called the International SOS clinic, one of the better places to go as foreigners (as most all of the staff speak some level of English).

Julie went this morning, and it turns out that David has “baby measles,” a fairly common virus in Russia, so the doctor told Julie. Usually babies are immunized for this at 1 year, but since David is only 11 months….Well, it isn’t too worrisome, our doctor said, and will pass in a few days. But, for now, David is to be cooped up, away from especially children and pregnant women, and most definitely away from pregnant women with children, and children who will some day be pregnant, and any combination thereof, so yes, even pregnant children, I suppose.

Not Fun. Unhappy kid. Poor Julie, as she has borne the brunt of if, as I am working or at language school during the day. We will both be ready for him to return to his normal, blotchy-less self.
