The Tallest Building in Tver

The Empire State Building in New York City, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Parliament Building with Big Ben in London—all of these are great architectural feats. Well, this building in Tver was designed as being another engineering marvel. With its narrow base expanding into a broader body, this building looks as if all one needs to do is push really hard, and the whole building will collapse. But no—this building, designed to be the largest, most modern hotel in Tver—seeming defying the laws of physics does not fall or waver.

At least, not yet.

And that is the problem. After the completion of the building (about 10 years ago), it was deemed unsafe. OOPS! A big, expensive, eye-sore-ish oops, as this building looms tall amidst the downtown buildings. I am not quite sure why it is still standing, though it now serves as an antenna tower as well as a huge billboard. Perhaps it is because it is surrounded by buildings that are still being actively used. Who knows, but one thing I do know—the person who OK’d the construction of this building was surely in hot, hot water!!
